The Herp Cage everyone in the UK has been waiting for!! |
Terry, based near Oxford, is a long time breeder of many different kinds of herptiles, widely respected for his knowledge and success. A supporter of conservation he believes one way in which species can receive protection is by the supply of the hobbyist's needs from captive bred animals thus removing another pressure from often fragile wild populations. He has written numerous articles for the Herpetological press about the captive maintenance of many species as well as information on their origins and habitat.
As a result of his breeding successes he can offer a wide range of top quality captive bred youngsters. In addition, as his own collection evolves, sometimes adult groups or individuals become available. The list of available animals is constantly changing and the list below relates to the animals which will be available in 2002/3.
Please phone or E-Mail for availability and prices or to book your animals in advance.
Of particular note is Terry's success with various Uromastyx species. A group of lizards that have increased in popularity in recent times but remain something of a challenge in captivity. Their needs should be thoroughly understood before they are taken on. BUT with proper care they can be one of the most fascinating of species to keep. It should be stressed that these are not prolific animals and numbers are always limited. Don't be fooled by inferior and parasite ridden wild caught animals, offered for sale in some shops, as captive bred. Uromastyx are protected under the CITES regulations and should not be taken commercially from the wild. Terry is always pleased to offer advice and guidance to prospective purchasers - but for these animals, prepare to be "vetted"!!! Perhaps the greatest surprise about them is how beautiful they can be. Below is a picture of the Ornate Uromastyx (Uromastyx ocellatus ornata).
Should you wish to enquire about any of the listed animals or to get an update on the animals he has in stock, ring Terry on (044) 01865 739396. Alternatively, you can E-Mail Terry at terry.thatcher@virgin.net .
